# [[Aturi]] The Aturi are a kind of [[Dwarf]] native to Ibir, descendant of [[Duergar]] that escaped the [[World Below]] through passages in [[Fortuna]], and adapted to living in the surface. Their skin tones range from light purplish tan to dark purplish olive. ![[Aturi Ranger.png|300]] # Culture ## Religion Aturi religion is very close to the [[Native Ibiri Religion]], with a big emphasis on worshipping the ancestors of the clan, and with the addition of worshipping the [[Old Dwarven Gods]] as their first ancestors. ![[Native Ibiri Religion#List of Ibiri Deities]] ![[Old Dwarven Gods#List of Old Dwarven Gods]] ## Clans The aturi have historically been organized in clans. The clans families connected by blood, each with a leader chosen to deal with disputes between clans or internal struggles. The leadership of a clan can be disputed by any of its members, but it is a long and grueling process, with specificities decided by each clan. If a leader dies without their leadership being disputed, the title carries to their next-of-kin following a matrilineal line of succession. The aturi can move to another clan through marriage, or through a process of adoption that can happen at any age. The adopting clan has to recognize the new member, and that person must abandon any pretention to lead their previous clan. While an aturi can recognize that they have been a part of many clans, it is taboo to not be a part of a clan or to be an active part in many. ## Speakers Aturi settlements have historically been founded by a gathering of clans, and follows a similar structure to that of clans: At the founding of a settlement, a Speaker is selected to head the disputes of the town and their clans. The Speaker is usually also the head of their own clan and their role as a Speaker can be contested by any member of the clans of a settlement. ### List of known Aturi clans | Clan name | Settlement | Known Members | | ------------------------------------ | ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | [[Kaagunud#Norod Clan House\|Norod]] | [[Kaagunud]] | [[Speaker Guro Norod]] (Clan Leader) | | Gunud | [[Kaagunud]] | [[Kaagunud#Tears of Arací Funerary Services\|Dohma Gunud]] (Clan Leader) | | Dwalin | [[Kaagunud]] | [[Kaagunud#Dwarven Lodge (Standard tavern)\|Ori, Nori, Dori]] | | Yvyrasulûm | ??? | [[Thaynera Yvyrasulûm\|Thaynera]] | | Irsir | [[Brine Rapids]] | [[Brine Rapids#The Dust Bath (Poor Tavern)\|Timbora, Atauru]] | | Kuabîl | [[Brine Rapids]] | [[Brine Rapids#Kuabîl Stonemason\|Isolino]] | ## Traditional Foods and Drinks These are traditional to the aturi: * Mushroom Ale (raised underground) * Fire Tambú (fried grubs of giant fire beetles, usually raised in mines) * Axe beak steaks * Lizards and snakes on the spit-roast * Stingbat soup (Thins the blood) * Basilisk tongue (Good against kidney stones) * Crushed crystal vine flowers as seasoning # Duergar Heritage While most Aturi despise their deep cousins due to centuries of conflicts and to the duergar's alignment with the [[Lucian]] during the [[Reign of Terror]], they have inherited some traits from their common ancestors. Aturi are resilient to mind-altering magic or substances, and spellcasters have an affinity to size-changing magic and invisibility spells.
