# [[Jangalori Religion]]
The rich lands of [[Jangalore]] were a primary target for [[Auroran]] colonialism and as a result, many [[Jangalori]] were kidnapped, enslaved, and transported to other lands. Their beliefs were suppressed through the [[Reign of Terror]], but the believers kept with their practices, substituting the name of their deities into saints of the [[Church of Sol]] to avoid further repression. After the death of the undead emperor, the [[Liberated]] of [[Jangalori]] descent have now resumed their worship more openly, despite persecution by the crown.
Practitioners of the Jangalori traditions believe in a life-force that connects all things called [[Axé]]. [[Axé]] is created in the spirit realm and has spread through the material world during its creation. The dead are believed to pass to the spirit realm and become part of [[Axé]]. The Jangalori deities, known as orixás, are believed to be ancestral people of such great [[Axé]] that they remained alive in the spirit realm as paragons of the living. Through meditation and pursuit of good virtues, a practitioner is said to obtain [[Axé]], becoming more connected to the divine and to their ancestrality.
Necromancy is anathema to [[Axé]] and despised by all Jangalori traditions. At the start of the [[Reign of Terror]], [[Jangalori]] leaders and diplomats strongly denounced the necromantic practices of Emperor Lucius IV, which used this as an excuse to declare war and start the colonization.
