# [[The Age of Gods and the Just War]]
The story of the Church of Sol starts with flourishing kingdoms, each more devoted to Sol, god of the Sun and civilization. The reach and might of these kingdoms, as well as their increased need for natural resources, put the humans in conflict with the long-lived races. Some tell that [[Vile Abaddon]], the god of darkness, united the gods of all the long-lived races and pitted them against the humans. When Abaddon killed Luna, god of the moon and Sol’s wife, the sun god rallied the human kingdoms and their minor gods under a single banner to declare war against Abaddon and all other races.
For the next 200 years, the Just War reaped both gods and mortals. As the armies of Sol accrued victories, Abaddon would find dark alliances with forces of ultimate chaos and destruction. Seeing themselves in a losing battle, the gods of the long-lived races turned against Abaddon: First were the halflings that joined Sol to protect their families; then the elves forfeited their magic to the humans; The gnomes gave passage through the dark forests, while the dragons cleared the skies; and finally, the dwarves opened their halls for the armies to march into the [[World Below]] to confront Abaddon in his own lair and end his evil once and for all.
Gods of all of the races joined Sol in this final battle, and as a desperate Abaddon was about to unleash an ancient titan of destruction onto the world, Sol was given the power of the other gods to bind Abaddon with the titan in the core of [[Kamuria]]. Hurt and exhausted, Sol returned to the world above, and although he lamented the losses the war caused, his followers celebrated the new alliances between the humans and the long-lived races. Looking at all the destruction that his Just War caused, Sol appointed one of his descendants as the first emperor of the [[Empire of Light]], that would unite all races under a single flag to avoid another war. With his last efforts, Sol left the material world, to be somewhere he could watch over all of the world.
