# [[Forage]] > ***Collaborative task — Can happen during [[Travel]].*** Characters can forage for food or water. A forager chooses and rolls a Survival check. Others can help or forage for something else. Failure leads to a foraging impediment. Success yields water or 1d6+Wis meals that must be consumed during the same day. Characters not foraging during travel have advantage. Rangers and others with the Natural Explorer trait can forage for both food and water simultaneously. ![[Difficulty by Terrain Type#^table]] >[!blank|s-t no-i t-w] Foraging Impediment | d12 | Setback | | :-: | :------ | | 1 | **Aggressive fauna.** Foragers encounter a wild animal. | | 2 | **Attracted scavenger.** Will be followed by a thieving creature. | | 3 | **Faerie trickery.** Foragers crosses the path of a hostile fae. | | 4 | **Mosquito bites.** Foragers save for Con or get diseased. | | 5 | **Pitfall.** Foragers save for Dex or take 2d6 fall damage. | | 6 | **Ruined backpack.** The forager’s backpack snags and gets ruined. | | 7 | **Poisoned food.** The food foraged poisons the party for three days. | | 8 | **Quicksand.** Foragers save for Str or gain exhaustion. | | 9 | **Ruined clothes.** The forager’s clothes snag and gets ruined. | | 10 | **Spotted.** Creatures of the next encounter lay an ambush ahead. | | 11 | **Sprained ankle.** The forager gets a sprained ankle. | | 12 | **Straining path.** The foragers gain an exhaustion level. |
