# [[Scout]] > ***Solo task — Happens during a [[Travel]] task.*** The character scouts for potential dangers or resources, making a Perception check. A successful check makes the scout aware of any potential encounters this round ahead of time. A failure results in a scouting impediment, and characters must rely on the party’s Passive Perception (or on a character keeping watch!) ![[Difficulty by Terrain Type#^table]] >[!blank|s-t no-i t-w] Scouting Impediment | d12 | Setback | | :-: | :------ | | 1 | **Aggressive fauna.** The scout encounters a wild animal. | | 2 | **Attracted scavenger.** Will be followed by a thieving creature. | | 3 | **Faerie trickery.** Scout crosses the path of a hostile fae. | | 4 | **Mosquito bites.** The scout saves for Con or gets diseased. | | 5 | **Pitfall.** The scout saves for Dex or take 2d6 fall damage. | | 6 | **Quicksand.** The scout saves for Str or gains exhaustion. | | 7 | **Ruined backpack.** The scout’s backpack snags and gets ruined. | | 8 | **Ruined clothes.** The scout’s clothes snag and gets ruined. | | 9 | **Spotted.** Creatures of the next encounter lay an ambush ahead. | | 10 | **Sprained ankle.** The scout gets a sprained ankle. | | 11 | **Straining path.** The scout gains an exhaustion level. | | 12 | **[[Ticks]].** The scout gets ticks. |
