# [[Resolve Dice]] The Resolve Dice serve as rewards for characters who demonstrate perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges (and for [[Session Helpers]]). Characters earn Resolve Dice by surviving challenging combat encounters and by overcoming other life-threatening challenges. During combat, characters can roll their Resolve Die to determine their [[Resolve]]. The Resolve Die can then be spent to activate a specific ability related to the character’s resolve. A resolve ability can only be used if the character is conscious. Alternatively, a character can spend their Resolve Die at any time to feel competent and gain advantage on any roll. This can be done outside of combat, or during combat after having rolled the Resolve Die.
