# [[Sympathy]]
A sympathy is a type of magic that is invoked through the manipulation of symbolic elements.
Anyone that knowingly performs the rites of a sympathy is able to benefit from its effects. Learning how to properly perform sympathies takes practice. Some sympathies are passed down for generations as part of religious rites or local folklore.
There are two types of sympathies:
Performing an **Act** causes a one-time effect, while a **Procedure** has a continuous effect that can be sustained for a longer period.
