The city is crossed by the [[Gold Route]] that connects it to [[Places/Settlements/Saint Jernod|Saint Jernod]] to the north. ![[LakeHope.png]] # History Lake Hope started as a loose collection of cattle farms and trading posts in the early years of the colony. Two centuries later, it’s now a vibrant city that exudes the most idyllic aspects of bucolic life with a hint of metropolitan splendor. While [[Saint Jernod]] is the de-facto capital of [[Fortuna]], Lake Hope is the cultural capital. Visitors can enjoy the various inns and distilleries, and savor the deliciously fatty Fortunan cheeses, and attend lectures at the [[Saint Míthrin School of Magic]]. The farms around Lake Hope provide enough food to supply all mining settlements in the region, and the breweries and taverns attract all sorts of [[Auroran]] scholars and bon-vivants, including [[The Luminaries]], an alliance of liberal professionals and scholars that sponsor events and courses in an attempt to spread their ideas among the masses. They have built libraries, schools, and theaters that make the town a hub of entertainment and learning, along with workshops that produce cloth, glass, metal tools, and many other manufactured goods. Nowadays, Lake Hope’s budding industry, educational opportunities, and urban amenities are starting to attract youngsters from all over the colony who seek jobs and a new lifestyle.
