# [[Strix's Nest]] > [[Settler]] settlement. [[Seeker]] minority. Strix's Nest is a small village on the [[Gold Route]]. It is close to [[Goldwood Lake]], the [[Goldwood River]] and enclosed by the [[Goldwood Forest]]. ![[Strix's Nest.png]] %%Central Tension: A city in the brink of war - People have been going missing and the town pins on the orcs for it. - A serial killer is on the loose. Using a blessing of st lucius to resurrect his child after a deal with a Yochlol summoned with a scroll left by his parent - Military Encampment outside of town %% # Government Being positioned mostly north of the [[Gold Route]], the city falls under the jurisdiction of the [[Barony of Brine Rapids]]. # Economy The village subsists through local agriculture and foresting, with some manufacture of jute products and burning of charcoal that is sold to other settlements. # History Strix's Nest started as a logging village in the [[Age of Colonization]], providing wood for [[Castle Ember]] and for export to the metropolis. During the [[Reign of Terror]], the town was mostly abandoned by the rulers due to the presence of a Church to [[Saint Lavernia]] and the saint's syncretic connection to [[Awosi]]. The village never had a good reputation, being the target of attacks from natives and beasts alike, including the [[Daur-Hai]] orcs of [[Burnt Pass]] that is recently causing fear on the population due to the takeover of [[Castle Ember]]. Many of the [[Seeker]] community of the town descend from the diaspora of [[Ungwêmár]], a town in the [[Burnt Pass]] destroyed by a dragon. # Districts The population of the town is divided in three areas: The more densely populated center, the sparse Owl Marsh, and New Ungwemar further north within the forest. ## Center The center of town, with a few small buildings surrounding the local church ### Beak and Feather (Standard Tavern) ![[Beak and Feather#^description]] ### Burlap and Beyond Well-decorated storefront in a long building near the tavern, full of burlap sacks, jute carpets, and barrels with bundles of torches.%% Carlan and Joliene Estopa (TN [[Quilombola]] humans) run this family-owned store that resells local production of jute fiber products. They own a small manufacture in town.%% ### Church of Saint Lavernia Small church with a single steeple that can be seen from the [[Gold Route]].%% Tended by Priest Sinforo Wilburrow (LN gnome).%% ### The Traveller's Shelter Large lime-washed adobe shed with stables on the back. Travellers can rent a bed in a large open-space divided by tall wooden screens. Operated by the local church through volunteers. %% Three people that checked in the shelter the last week went for a walk around the village and didn't return. Their things are stored in the church.%% ### Camp Forthright Recently-arrived [[Knights of the Green Cloak|Green cloaks]] and soldiers of the [[Imperial Army]] are camping in this circle of carts and carriages just outside of town in the meadows, with the north wall enclosed by a wooden palisade, which they continue to build.%% They started cutting trees in the [[Goldwood Forest]], which has upset the local population, from [[Seeker|Estelmites]] to charcoal producers.%% %%The [[Knights of the Green Cloak|Green cloaks]] are led by Dame Daura the Poet (CG aasimar bard, opal green skin and light orange eyes), that also serves as correspondent to the [[Brine Rapids Gazette]] in the area and can be seen carrying her lyre back and forth the mead house. Lieutenant Sandro of Goldthread (NE settler human, somber man with a lisp) commands the [[Imperial Army]] troops and believes that Dame Daura is a risk for the whole operation.%% ## Owl Marsh Closer to [[Goldwood Lake]]. Mostly small farms, jute plantations, and charcoal piles. Fetid marsh air laced with coal smoke. Dirt streets get very muddy when it rains. ### The Smokestack Bar (Poor Tavern) This soot-covered building downwind from the charcoal pits has a few tables, and a counter on the porch. No accommodations. Workers come drink the local watered-down cachaça and stale ale and partake in the meat and fish skewers cooked in the open-air grill. Friendly environment, but you leave smelling of smoke.%% Ran by Uncle Gerso (TN settler human, elderly man that drinks alongside customers, runs the bar mostly for the company).%% ### Estopa Torch Manufacture Walled plot with an iron gate contains an outdoors workshop surrounded by a trio of buildings that includes a furnace, storage shed, and an office. Here they shape the handles out of local wood and use local jute fibers dipped in tallow for the wick. %%Ran by Cousin Lino Estopa on behalf of his brother that runs Burlap and beyond.%% ### Charcoal Pits Dozens of smoldering dirt mounts in a sparsely wooded plot. Daily, workers can be seen piling logs, building and digging charcoal pits. The plot has a storehouse, a small stable and a blacksmith shop.%% The blacksmith Jerona Santos (TN orc settler) was forbidden to go to the local bars since the invasion of [[Castle Ember]] and workers from the jute plantation went missing, so she drinks alone at the shop now.%% ## New Ungwêmár This neighbourhood is further off the village's center and built within the canopy of the [[Goldwood Forest]] in the architectural style of the [[Seeker]] community. ### Shrine to Saint Renia the Protector The construction furthest within the wood, a few meters from the river. Four naturally-grown wood pillars curve atop a painted wooden statue of [[Renia]]. The only nearby house is the caretaker's, which has a pier extending to the [[Goldwood River]]. ### Miruvormár, The Elven Mead House An organic-looking cylindrical natural wood building of [[Seeker|Estelmite]] architecture. The meadhouse was built around a massive [pink jequitibá tree](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cariniana_legalis) and their production is local with honey gathered around [[Goldwood Forest]]. Attendants will welcome customers to the counter in elvish and offer a tasting of the most popular flavors. This is the one place that effectively attracts visitors from out of town, and the owners are very aware. %% #UpdateLocationTree%% ## Location Tree >[!place] [[Places/Political Territories/Barony of Brine Rapids.md|Barony of Brine Rapids]] (⚜ Barony) >>[!place] [[Places/Natural Features/Moon Lake.md|Moon Lake]] (🌅 Body of Water) > >>[!place] [[Places/Natural Features/Goldwood River.md|Goldwood River]] (🌅 Body of Water) > >>[!place] [[Places/Buildings/Burnock Mill.md|Burnock Mill]] (🏠 Building) > >>[!place] [[Places/Natural Features/Goldwood Forest.md|Goldwood Forest]] (🌳 Forest) > >>[!place] [[Places/Buildings/Castle Ember.md|Castle Ember]] (🏰 Fortification) > >>[!place] [[Places/Natural Features/Salt Hills.md|Salt Hills]] (⛰ Mountain Range) > >>[!place] [[Places/Natural Features/Roc's Peak.md|Roc's Peak]] (📍 Point of Interest) > >>[!place] [[Places/Settlements/Ungwêmár.md|Ungwêmár]] (📍 Ruins) > >>[!place] [[Places/Settlements/Abaçaí-Mirim.md|Abaçaí-Mirim]] (🏙 Settlement) > >>[!place]- [[Places/Settlements/Brine Rapids.md|Brine Rapids]] (🏙 Settlement) >>>[!place] [[Places/Buildings/Brine Rapids/Flooded Chapel.md|Flooded Chapel]] (🏛 Dungeon) >> >>>[!place] [[Places/Buildings/Brine Rapids/The Wise Rat.md|The Wise Rat]] (🍺 Tavern or Inn) >> > >>[!place]- [[Places/Settlements/Kaagunud.md|Kaagunud]] (🏙 Settlement) >>>[!place] [[Places/Buildings/Kaagunud/The Drunken Rattlesnake.md|The Drunken Rattlesnake]] (🍺 Tavern or Inn) >> >>>[!place] [[Places/Buildings/Kaagunud/The Escape Tunnel.md|The Escape Tunnel]] (🍺 Tavern or Inn) >> > >>[!place]+ YOU ARE HERE [[Places/Settlements/Strix's Nest.md|Strix's Nest]] (🏙 Settlement) >>>[!place] [[Places/Buildings/Beak and Feather.md|Beak and Feather]] (🍺 Tavern or Inn) >> %%END%%
